Art Schait ~ our beloved volunteer

Art Schait – MNP’s “Jack of All Trades”

For the past 5 years, the Mequon Nature Preserve has had the privilege of having Mr. Art Schait using his multiple talents to build, repair, problem solve – whatever needs to be done around the building that week. He was the Preserve’s “mechanical genius.”

When asked why he wanted to volunteer at the MNP Art replied, “I feel its important to have a sense of purpose when you get up in the morning. I want to use my talents to make a difference. You need to know what you can contribute to the organization.”

Art had been battling brain cancer since December and unfortunately lost the fight on May 13th, 2011.

For those of you that had the privilege of working with this extraordinary volunteer, you know the impact he has on a small organization and the hole he leaves in ones heart.

For the first couple years of my job here at MNP, Art was my one and only “colleague”! He helped me think through everything, fix anything and make a difference one seed at a time. We were a team on a daily basis. Although he said he’d only come every Tuesday–he ended up coming at least once a day…most days returning after lunch. Each Tuesday though–he’d walk into my office with his clipboard and his agenda on it. He was a doer–a fixer–the ultimate tinker and a person I learned so much from.

A memorial visitation and service is scheduled for May, 22nd at 10:30am at the Mequon Nature Preserve PieperPower Education Center. (8200 W. County Line Road)

Art- You will be forever missed. May you rest in Peace.
