Donges Bay Gorge
Donges Bay Gorge is a 23+/- acre parcel bordering Lake Michigan in Mequon, Wisconsin that is part of the historic Kurth property. The property includes steep lake slopes, beach frontage, an undulating upland lake bluff, upland woods, and a ravine that extends through the property. In the northeastern portion of the property, several acres were cleared for a residence (non-extant), pool house, pool (non-extant), bridge, and a tennis court (non-extant). The property had been in residential use since the 1930’s, but restoration plans include restoring historic or regionally scarce vegetation communities to increase biodiversity and improve wildlife habitat in woodland and wetland communities, improve fish and aquatic habitat in the ravine, improve wildlife habitat to support the Lake Michigan Migratory Flyway, and provide opportunities for passive, nature based, non-motorized, recreational activities (such as hiking on designated trails and wildlife observation)
